Police Handout
Nedra Byrd, 31, of Spring Hill, Fla., was arrested after a 10-year-old boy under her care was found walking around naked and drunk by neighbors.
A 10-year-old Florida boy bombed on brandy was found wandering his
neighborhood naked and drunk — and police say his caretaker was the one
who plied him with booze.
Nedra Byrd, 31, was arrested and charged with one count of child abuse after the boy under her care was seen around 7:30 p.m. Thursday on the streets of Spring Hill, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.
A sheriff’s office spokeswoman wouldn’t confirm Tuesday the exact relationship between Byrd and
the boy, although at least one neighbor said he referred to her as his mother.
A couple who found the child brought him to the neighbor, Amanda Roesch, reported NBC affiliate WBBH.
“He couldn’t even stand,” Roesch told the station. “He was just, you know, naked, and I’m like, ‘Come in the house, baby,’ — and I went and got some of my son’s clothes.”

What the boy told her was upsetting.
“This little boy, he said, ‘All I want for my mommy is to go to rehab and to get anger management because mommy drinks to feel better cause she’s mad.’” Roesch said. “He’s 10. Really? He had to to take care of mom. How do you not know your child is naked drunk and missing?”
Deputies who arrived at Byrd’s home said she was passed out on the couch, according to CBS affiliate WTSP.
When she woke up, she told deputies she thought the child was inside his room and responded, “Yeah, I’m drunk as hell,’” according to reports.
Deputies discovered a half-empty bottle of Christian Brother’s brandy, which the boy said Byrd allegedly gave him.
