Soccer legend, Peter Rufai, regains consciousness, family calls for prayers



Former Super Eagles goal keeper Peter Rufai has finally regained consciousnesses after he suddenly slumped and was rushed to a Lagos hospital.

While doctors at the Toki Hospital, where the
ex-international is being treated are yet to discharge the 49-year-old, Bruce Rufai, his brother, told PREMIUM TIMES the goalkeeper has regained consciousness but yet to get back to his strides.

Bruce revealed that prayer sessions were ongoing at the bedside of Rufai while he also called on other Nigerians and fans alike to pray along.

“I cant say anything thing now but Peter Rufai has regained his consciousness but yet to be discharged from hospital’

Bruce admitted that the battle might not yet be over as he called on Nigerians to keep praying for the USA 94, France 98 goal keeper

“He is still receiving treatment after finally gaining consciousness, we dont know if he will be strong enough to be discharged today,” Bruce said.

According to Bruce,Rufai never showed any sign of illness and never had any previous history of such before slumping Monday night.

“He wasn’t ill before, he has actually been busy in recent times with one project or the other. We were surprised when he  just collapsed and passed out late Monday,” Bruce explained.

He added “You know his mother just passed on, and he is the first son. For now, his mum has not been buried, and the emotional trauma, coupled with all the activities he’s been involved in, probably got to him.

“Right now, we just want Nigerians to pray for him. He is also one person we all look up to, and we don’t want to lose him too,” Bruce said.

As at the time of filing this report, Rufai has not eaten any food, Bruce said.

His daughter, he said,  had gone out to get something for him to eat.

The rest of Rufai’s immediate family are believed to be based in Spain where the Super Eagles shot stopper played most of his profesional football
