Aluu4: No remorse: “Release our monarch now” – Aluu people demand

Omuokiri Aluu is still in the eyes of the storm. The community which gained notoriety as a result of the mob lynching of four undergraduates of the University of Port Harcourt by indigenes of the community, had their traditional ruler, Alhaji Hassan Walewa, arrested about a week ago by security agents. Now members of the community are demanding that their monarch be released immediately by the security agents.

The Chairman, Aluu Council of Chiefs, Chief Richard Kalu and the Chairman, Ogbakor Aluu, Mr. Emma Wawhor, in a joint statement, urged security agents to stop the harassing and arresting innocent Aluu people.

They were defiant, and denied that Aluu people were involved in the killing. They urged the security agents to go for the actual perpetrators of the crime and bring them to justice.

An excerpt from their statement: “The arrest has buttressed the fact that no Aluu indigene was involved in the murder of the four students of University of Port Harcourt except in the case of the paramount ruler of the Omuokiri community, Chief Alhaji Hassan Walewa, who was merely invited by the police in his capacity as paramount ruler of the community where the act took place.

“But surprisingly, he has been in detention of security agencies till date. The people of Aluu clan cannot understand the reason for his continued incarceration.

“We hereby demand his prompt release and urge the security agencies to stop further harassment, mass arrest of innocent Aluu people and go for the actual perpetrators of the crime and subsequently bring them to justice,” the statement, which was read by the spokesman of Aluu, Mr. Garshon Benson, said.
