Scolded over studies, boy shoots father in Tamil Nadu

Scolded, boy shoots father

A 17-year-old boy killed his father on Sunday after the latter reprimanded him for
performing poorly in the examinations. The shocking incident occurred at Sirkazhi, located about 250 km from Chennai, in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu.
Police sources said the boy, A Gowtham, a Class XII student at a local government school, beat his father Aadiapatham with a heavy stick on Saturday after the latter scolded him for not doing good in his studies.
Gowtham fled the house but when he returned on Sunday, Aadiapatham, who had gone to work despite the injury, lashed out at him for his act. Gowtham was incited at this and he took his father's single-barrel gun and shot him, killing him on the spot. Aadiapatham served as a watchman in the CB-CID office in Sirkazhi. Gowtham was the son from his first wife, who had died 15 years ago. He had married again later.
Local police arrested Gowtham and confiscated the gun. Aadiapatham's body was sent for post-mortem and a case was registered against the boy. Police were investigating the case. During initial interrogation, Gowtham reportedly confessed that he had committed the crime out of haste and realised his crime.
